McColm supports the Department of State Human Trafficking Expert Consultant Network. The Department of State's Human Trafficking Expert Consultant Network (the Network) engages experts, particularly those with lived experience of human trafficking, to provide input on the Department's anti-trafficking policies, programs, and products, both in the United States and abroad. Network consultants advise the Department on various matters ranging from consulting on multilateral anti-trafficking efforts to grant-making, as well as publicly available resources.
The Network seeks a subject matter expert consultant to speak on a panel at a side event to the twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The event, Shoring Up Seafood Supply Chains - Combating Forced Labor in Fishing and Seafood Processing, seeks to raise awareness for criminal justice practitioners who may encounter indicators of forced labor in the seafood supply chain, an unprecedented issue for the UNTOC, with significant potential to inspire greater governmental action and collaboration.
Requirements
This panel will cover the latest trends in forced labor in fishing and seafood processing, including any nexus to IUU (illegal, unreported, unregulated) fishing; highlight best practices to address such concerns; share tools and resources to prevent exploitation; and present some concrete solutions given complex maritime regulatory regimes. Consultant will possess expertise in at least some of these topics, partially derived from lived experience.
Consultant will work closely with the U.S. delegation and potentially the Australian delegation at the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime as well as members of the TIP Office leading up to the event for preparation and talking point development.
The preparation will culminate in participation at the UNTOC event 14-18 October 2024 and particularly preparation, speaking, and debrief on a panel at the side event Shoring Up Seafood Supply Chains - Combating Forced Labor in Fishing and Seafood Processing
