Job Description:
We are seeking a Linguistic Specialist to assist with language data processing for text-to-speech (TTS) technology development. The ideal candidate should have experience in phonemic transcription, phonetics, and working with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). They will collaborate with our research team to build a phonetic library and ensure language consistency across synthetic speech models.
Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate phonemic transcriptions and word spellings.
- Manage data transfers between internal and external tools, including audio, text, and spectrogram curation for TTS recording sessions.
- Perform quality analysis of voice recordings to ensure proper pronunciation and prosody.
- Conduct text normalization to map symbols to words in the dictionary.
- Maintain a database of transcriptions using in-house phonetic spelling and IPA.
- Develop phonetically balanced sentence lists for TTS synthesis.
- Work on speech waveform annotation and data collection to improve TTS systems.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, Speech-Language Pathology, or Audiology.
- Strong knowledge of IPA, phonetics, phonology, and syntax/semantics.
- Proficiency in handling dialects and accents (including English).
- Experience with audio tools like Audacity for splitting and labeling audio.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, including presenting and reporting.
- Experience with speech evaluation of voice actors is a plus.
