Description

We are looking for a Head of Platform Engineering to oversee cloud and on-premise technology infrastructure, site reliability engineering, continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, and service management of our company's IT department. This person should strategically make systems stable, supportable, and performant, and seamlessly integrate software engineering teams with operations. This position reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities

DevOps

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines; coach and enable other team members to use them to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity throughout the software development and deployment lifecycle.
  • Work with the Chubb Global team and engineering centers to manage Microsoft Azure cloud as well as servers provisioned through on-premise data centers.
  • Assist development teams and vendors with systems integration, especially with managed services.

Site Reliability Engineering

  • Define and manage service level objectives; implement monitoring, observability, and automation.
  • Oversee implementation of app-level metrics with development teams and vendors.

Architecture

  • Create, present, and implement strategic plans to improve system performance and reliability, making appropriate business and engineering trade-offs.
  • Research ongoing technology developments and identify opportunities to leverage them to improve the company's business and technical operations.
  • Oversee daily cloud and on-premise systems management; work with technical and non-technical teams to ensure systems and networks are reliable and supportable.

Management

  • Lead a team of IT professionals; providing guidance and support to ensure that they are meeting their goals. Influence across teams and tech / non-tech functions.
  • Organize team on-call support and work closely with the Support team to respond to incidents as appropriate.
  • Request and coordinate work with various Regional and Group level counterparts and teams using workflow management and ticket based systems (JIRA, ServiceNow)
  • Manage technology vendors and service providers to ensure that the organization's technology needs are met, in accordance with the CTO/Group CTO's technology strategy.
  • Plan and manage IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery efforts.
  • Manage cloud and related vendor costs and procurement.
  • Ensure IT policies, procedures, and practices are up to date and compliant with Group/industry standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Either Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years technical experience in Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP, with 4+ years of management experience.
  • Experience building and operating Kubernetes clusters, message queues or event busses, load balancers, CDNs, and other common cloud-native building blocks.
  • Experience using automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, Gitlab CI), and common scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate software delivery, operations, and management tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge of both cloud and on-premise infrastructure. Experience writing and managing Infrastructure-As-Code (Terraform or equivalent).
  • Experience applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including: defining and managing to service level objectives; implementing and using monitoring and observability tools; automating manual work with alerts, scripts, or pipelines; and enabling development teams.
  • Experience solving systems architecture problems and synthesizing solutions based on data.
  • Experience using common project management and service management software, such as JIRA and ServiceNow.
  • Fluent in English (equivalent to IELTS 7.0, CEFR C1, or TOEFL 94); excellent spoken and written communication to effectively work with senior management from a global team.
  • (non-Thai candidates) Basic Thai listening proficiency. Experience supervising and working with a Thai-speaking team.
