Our strategic partner is seeking a highly skilled Senior-level Environmentalist to lead carbon credit project development for corporate clients across the region, following internationally recognized carbon credit standards such as Gold Standard, CDM, The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Standard, Puro Earth, and Thailand's local T-VER program. This role will also involve Article 6 of the Paris Agreement project development, specifically ITMO (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) projects, with a focus on innovative carbon reduction and removal projects such as mass EV adoption, food waste management, biochar for removal, methane reduction, and nature-based solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Carbon Credit Project Development: Oversee the end-to-end development of carbon credit projects for clients, ensuring compliance with globally recognized standards (e.g., Gold Standard, VCS, CDM, Puro Earth, domestic standards such as T-VER and etc.)
- Article 6/ITMO Projects: Spearhead the design and implementation of Article 6 projects, including ITMO mechanisms, to facilitate international carbon trading and transfer.
- Project Scoping and Design: Identify, scope, and design high-quality carbon credit projects focused on mass EV adoption, waste management, methane reduction, biochar removal, landfill gas management, and nature-based solutions such as afforestation, reforestation and revegetation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with corporate clients, regulatory bodies, project partners, and governments to secure project approvals and establish strategic partnerships.
- Carbon Accounting and Monitoring: Develop robust methodologies for quantifying carbon reductions or removals, ensuring that projects meet the required verification standards (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard) and align with corporate sustainability targets.
- Due Diligence and Feasibility: Conduct feasibility studies, financial analysis, risk assessments, and environmental impact assessments for potential projects to determine their viability.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure projects adhere to national and international regulations, emissions reporting requirements, and voluntary market guidelines.
- Project Financing: Collaborate with internal teams to secure project financing, including green bonds, climate finance, or public-private partnerships.
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior environmentalists and project teams in project development, strategy, and technical documentation.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: At least Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields. A bachelor's degree with significant experience will be considered.
- Experience: A track record in carbon credit project development or environmental project management, with hands-on experience in international carbon standards (Gold Standard, VCS, CDM, Puro Earth and domestic standards such as Thailand's Voluntary Emission Reductions Standard).
- Article 6 Expertise: Demonstrated experience in developing ITMO projects under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
- Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of carbon accounting, project verification, and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) processes for carbon credits.
- Project Development Expertise: Proven track record in designing and managing large-scale carbon projects, particularly in sectors like EV adoption, waste management, biochar, and methane reduction (any).
- Analytical and Research Skills: Ability to conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and data analysis to inform project development and decision-making.
- Communication and Leadership: Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills with the ability to translate technical details into strategic insights for clients.
- Languages: Proficiency in English is required; proficiency in regional languages is an advantage.
