The Senior Manager, Facilities Construction is a senior management role, responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of construction projects and ongoing operations within data center facilities.
This role ensures that data center facilities meet operational requirements, industry standards, and best practices. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, manages resources, and ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
What You'll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for developing and implementing a strategic plan for data center facilities that aligns with the organization's IT and business objectives. This includes capacity planning, expansion strategies, and technology roadmaps.
- Provides strategic leadership and direction to data center construction projects, from concept to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Allocates and manages resources, including budgets, personnel, contractors, and equipment, to support data center construction projects globally.
- Accountable for review and approval data center facility designs, ensuring they meet operational, security, scalability, and sustainability requirements. Collaborate with architects and engineers.
- Manages and monitors budgets for data center construction projects, tracking expenditures and optimizing costs. Reports on financial performance to senior leadership.
- Identify potential risks related to data center construction projects and develop comprehensive risk mitigation strategies. Proactively address issues that may impact project success.
- Establishes and enforces quality control measures to ensure that construction work adheres to design specifications and industry standards. Conduct inspections and audits.
- Ensures that data center construction projects comply with local, national, and international regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Selects, negotiates with, and manages external vendors, suppliers, and construction contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and timelines.
- Collaborates with internal teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership to align data center construction projects with overall business goals and priorities. Provide regular updates on project status and milestones.
- Promotes and enforce safety protocols, environmental responsibility, and sustainability practices in data center construction projects.
Knowledge and Attributes:
- Uses extended knowledge across functional areas to direct the application of existing policies and principles and guide the development of new policies and ideas across the function.
- Leads, integrates and directs work applying substantial practical expertise across function disciplines.
- Solutions are devised based on limited information and issues that are occasionally complex and fundamental principles and data may be in conflict
- Extended knowledge of data center facilities, infrastructure, best practices, and emerging trends in the data center industry.
- Extended understanding of electrical systems, HVAC, cooling technologies, networking, and security systems relevant to data center construction.
- Extended financial acumen, budgeting skills, and experience managing large construction project budgets.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams and large-scale construction projects.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration, stakeholder management, and reporting to senior leadership.
- Extended experience managing construction projects across different regions and familiarity with international regulations and standards.
- Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in data center construction.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Advanced degree in business (MBA) or engineering is advantageous.
- Certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional) is advantageous.
Required Experience:
- Extended demonstrated experience in project management methodologies, tools, and practices.
- Extended demonstrated management and leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams and large-scale construction projects.
