Job Description

Currie & Brown is looking for a senior quantity surveyor/quantity surveyor for our Bangkok office. The successful candidate will contribute to the provision of quantity surveying services to Currie & Brown's clients.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the senior/lead quantity surveyor with the preparation of preliminary cost advice, project feasibility study, cost planning and budget establishment including:
  • Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
  • Assisting, preparing and managing the required design proposal and client's requirement for the entire project including civil, structure, architecture, interior, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other specialist works

Preparing and managing the pre-contract stage including:

  • Advising on a procurement strategy including identifying commercial risks and helping to develop suitable responses using value engineering exercises
  • Preparing tender documents including obtaining tender information, preparing bills of quantities including measurement and managing tender queries
  • Pre-qualifying and identifying suitable tenderers, evaluating and recommending tenderers to participate in tender as per tender programme
  • Obtaining and following up on quotations from main contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers for pre-tender estimate/cost study/cost advice purposes
  • Preparing and analysing submitted quotations from contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers
  • o Assisting, preparing and managing the procurement exercise, including calling of tender, tender report including tender comparison, tender analysis, tender interview, negotiating and finalising award
  • Reviewing and checking tender submissions for accuracy, level of pricing, advising on errors and qualifications and, if necessary, negotiating the offers
  • Reviewing and rationalising unit rates and quantity
  • Assisting, preparing and compiling contract documents including advice on use and/or amendments of a standard form of contract or contributing to the drafting of particular requirements in association with the client's legal advisor

Preparing and managing the post-contract stage including:

  • Preparing interim payment certificates including carrying out site valuation and assessment of contractor payment application
  • Managing and monitoring project costs in line with the approved budget including regularly issuing financial reports to the client that show current project cost including incorporate all authorised/estimated change orders
  • Managing the assessment of variations and the financial aspects of the project change control process including negotiating with the contractor and recommending adjustments to the contract sum
  • Co-ordinating with the project team in relation to project issues, especially cost and contract matters
  • o Attending site valuations, joint site measurements, site meetings and/or client/consultant meetings
  • Assisting where possible on a range of legal and contractual issues
  • Managing the settlement of final account

Other ad-hoc duties will include:

  • Taking a leading role in setting team objectives and priorities, working as a proactive team player
  • Attending project/design meetings and responding on input/output of project requirement
  • Managing effective communication ensuring all information is available for successful completion of projects; liaising with other team members/client to ensure efficient financial control
  • Contributing to team and project performance by collaboration and effective communication
  • Assisting where possible on a range of legal and contractual issues
  • Manage on the settlement of final account

Requirements:

  • BSc in quantity surveying, civil, structural, architectural, mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years technical delivery experience as a quantity surveyor, or a minimum of five years technical delivery experience for the senior position, gained within a global construction consultancy, with exposure to multiple projects
  • Experience on the contractor and/or developer side also considered
  • Well-developed technical knowledge and skills, for example preparing tender documents, estimates and cost plans, measurement from drawings, construction technology, contract and law, etc
  • Understanding of and familiarity with professional practice and contract administration process
  • Passionate about quantity surveying and furthering your career with a leading construction consultancy
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadline, work under pressure, work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good IT skills; experience of construction software an advantage, eg BIM, CostX or equivalent
  • Clear and analytical approach to problem solving, with strong decision-making skills
  • Proficient in both spoken and written Thai (English an advantage)
