Job Purpose
The Technical Accounting Director will be instrumental in establishing and expanding technical accounting services for our clients in Thailand. This role requires a seasoned finance professional with a deep understanding and experience of accounting processes and standards, regulatory compliance, evidenced record in finance transformation exploiting digital technologies and a proven track record of building and managing successful technical accounting teams. Will be regarded as a trusted confidant and advisor to CFO's with strong operational and digital experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Thai accounting principles, processes and standards to ensure compliance with local regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of Thai GAAP and IFRS standards including experience in conversion from other countries.
- Proficiency in Thai tax laws and regulations, including knowledge of corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and other relevant taxes.
- Experience in preparing, analyzing and converting financial statements in accordance with Thai Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (Thai GAAP).
- Experience in preparing, analyzing and converting financial statements in accordance with Thai International Finance Reporting Standards (Thai IFRS).
- (Useful) IFRS 17 conversion experience
- Proficient in financial modeling and analysis, with a focus on providing insights into the financial performance and health of the organization.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and management techniques, with a focus on identifying and mitigating financial risks specific to the Thai business environment.
- Demonstrated experience in detailed annotation of finance processes, for example Work Instructions.
- Understanding of relevant Thai business laws, contracts, and regulatory frameworks affecting financial transactions.
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance to clients and internal teams on complex accounting issues and transactions.
Technology Skills:
- Willingness and ability to leverage technology, including financial software and tools, for automation, data analysis, and streamlined financial processes.
- (Preferable) Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems commonly used in Thailand for efficient financial management and reporting.
- Highly proficient in the use of advanced Excel.
Service Development and Expansion:
- Implement the strategic vision for the technical accounting services offered by Grant Thornton in Thailand and actively contribute to its ongoing evolution.
- Continually identify market trends, client needs, and potential opportunities to expand and enhance technical accounting offerings.
- Become a recognized and sought after leader in Thailand in this field through marketing, presentations, and events.
- (Preferable) Have participated in the set up or transition of a Shared Service Centre
Client Relationship Management:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and demonstrate a sound understanding of their specific technical accounting needs.
- Collaborate with teams across Grant Thornton Thailand and abroad to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
Team Leadership:
- Build and lead a high-performing technical accounting team, providing guidance and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, especially towards digital technologies.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the team's technical skills and knowledge.
Quality Assurance:
- Understanding and continual learning of financial regulations and compliance requirements set by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other relevant authorities.
- Implement rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and compliance of technical accounting services delivered by the team.
- Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain high standards of service delivery.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Integration:
- Build a strong collaborative relationship with all services in Grant Thornton to be able to provide joint solutions where technical accounting can participate.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in technical accounting roles, with a strong understanding of IFRS, local GAAP, and relevant regulations in Thailand.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and managing technical accounting services.
- Evidence experiences in finance transformation using contemporary digital tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- An advantage to have experience in Shared Service Centre roles or transitions.
